About Us
The "subtitles." Story
Who is "subtitles."?
Hey guys! Thank's so much for taking the time to learn a little about the band, and us as individuals.
In March of 2023, Jake Obermiller (Chicago born independent singer/songwriter) reached out to Alexandre Di Pasquale (French drummer/producer) via Instagram in hopes to collaborate on a project for fun. Well, here we are three years later about to drop our debut album, "subtitles. on."
The band started out via skype and zoom calls, messing around and coming up with ideas for demos. Jake would come up with a melody or idea for a riff and verbally express it to Alex, who in turn would have it recorded within 5 minutes. As the time went on, the songs got better, the message got clearer, and we gained all the confidence we needed to start taking this to the next level, which you will hear in this album.
We are now a few shows into performing together, and have many things planned coming up! Unfortunately, we are still separated by thousands of miles, so Alex has to travel from France for almost every big event we have. Let's get Alex to the US! (no seriously, if you have any connection with this kind of thing, contact us.)
Who are the biggest "subtitles." influences?
Get ready emo fans! We've got a wide range here and each member covers every base.
For Jake: Current big influences of mine would be The Story So Far, Movements, and Hawthorne Heights; to the original sounds from growing up of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and American Football. Honorable mention to Pearl Jam (Dad's influence) and 311 (Aunt Jenny's influence). These definitely steered me in the direction of making this new age alternative/grunge kind of sound, with very raw storytelling attached.
For Alex: I grew up on bands like Blink-182, Green Day, and Three Doors Down! Now, I still listen to a lot of that, but I love Twenty One Pilots, The Story So Far, and bands like that. They have all led me in the direction of the way I play my drums and the love I have for my music.
Who is on the production team?
Great question! We do want to quickly thank a few people involved in this project:
Our Guitarist for our final records, Andrew Stephenson, who has become a staple of the subtitles. crew and mission overall. He’s one of the best session players in the game right now, and almost all guitars on subtitles. tracks that you hear came from Andrew's fingers, so go give him a follow!
Our Producer, Jojo Centineo, for his undeniable greatness when it comes to creativity, vocal knowledge and production, and being a great friend to the band as well. Jojo produces for a ton of great artists, go follow him to see more!
Our Drum Editor/Mixer, Neil Engle, for always taking the time to make sure that Alex's drums are top notch and exactly how we want them.
And last, but not least, our Mastering Engineer, Kris Crummett, I mean... What hasn't been said about this guy? One of the most legendary Mastering Engineers of all time. If you don't believe me go ahead and give him a google, haha. Thanks so much to Kris for putting the final touches on our projects, you truly push them to the next level.
What is next for "subtitles."?
Keep an eye on our debut album release of "subtitles. on" March 19th, 2026. This will feel like the true starting point of our movement and we can't wait for everyone to hear our emotions through these songs.
As things continue to progress, we will be uploading a ton of content, media from live shows, ticket links, and of course; new music. Making music is not only our passion, but our calling; and we are so thankful that you are all here and allowing us to do that, so...
THANK YOU!!! One, for making it through that; you're a real trooper. But if you've read to this point, you are 100% the type of fan that streams our music, shares our content, and supports us in a true way and we couldn't possibly thank you enough.
Now all we need to do is (say it with me): "KEEP the subtitles. on"
